The Quantum Master Barcelona joins the QTOM European collaboration

The Barcelona Master in Quantum Science and Technology, coordinated by the University of Barcelona, has recently joined QTOM, a brand new experimental pan-European collaboration.

The QTEdu Open Master QTOM is an initiative of the coordination and support action on Education of the Quantum Flagship, the European initiative on quantum technologies, funded with €1.5bn, which started earlier in 2018.

The QTOM program, which hosted its launch event on December 6th, aims at providing means for students of Master’s programs across Europe to study diverse and relevant areas of Quantum Technologies.

Access to the pilot programme is available for staff and students flexibly, through entirely standalone shared lecture courses, workshops and events, and guest lectures from a network of over 30 partner institutions across Europe. The courses undertaken through the program are ECTS accredited, so students can incorporate the study and research modules into their own Master’s programs, including their thesis projects. An extensive internship program will also begin from January 2022, allowing students to participate remotely and in person.

Furthermore, the pilot is trialling the use of the European Competence Framework for Quantum Technologies, which maps the educational requirements of the Quantum workforce of the future.

The Master program, with its first edition currently ongoing, is the result of a coordinated effort of the QuantumCAT community, including the University of Barcelona, the Autonomous University of Barcelona, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Institute of Photonic Sciences ICFO, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, the Institute of High Energy Physics and the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
