QuantumCAT partners join the MWC2021

QuantumCAT partners join the MWC 2021, where 20,000 visitors from 117 countries and more than 100,000 online attendees connect to the current situation of the mobile ecosystem.

Every year the Mobile World Congress brings together the leading companies and pioneers in the industry to share the latest news relevant to future technological ecosystems. After two years of unimaginable hiatus in world conferences and events, Mobile 2021 has returned to Barcelona in an atypical event, with a hybrid format between face-to-face and virtual presentations.

The congress organizer GSMA set up an exhaustive schedule of presentations, talks and exhibitions, that covered a wide variety of technology areas in the mobile and telecommunications industry, emphasizing the latest developments in the sector. The event also focused on large companies such as Google, Samsung or TCL, which unveiled their new products. Approximately 20,000 visitors from 117 different countries attended the event in person, which had a parallel audience of more than 100,000 people connected to the virtual sessions.

Startups at 4YFN

This year’s main track sessions ran parallel with the 4YFN Congress, the world’s largest event for startups. Three QuantumCAT startups participated in several 4YFN events, focused on illustrating what quantum technologies are and what changes they will entail in the future for industry, institutions and society in general.

Víctor Canivell, CEO and co-founder of Qilimanjaro, presented the company in the sessions “From lab to the market: Showcasing three deep tech startups”, organized by The Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), and the “Barcelona Deep Tech Hub“, a debate on the deep tech scene in Barcelona moderated by Pere Condom-Vila, director of technology transfer at the University of Girona. Canivell explained how his company tackles the challenge of error correction in quantum computing, developing a new type of coherent cubits, and his vision of deep tech.

Qilimajaro’s other founder Dr Artur Garcia Saez was also present in another of the congress sessions, “From Bytes to Qbits: Opportunities of Unprecedented Computing Power”, sharing space with the CEO of Quside Carlos Abellán. The conversation about new quantum technologies covered a wide range of hot topics, such as quantum computing – archetypes, systems or quantum supremacy, among others-, quantum cryptography or quantum random generators as providers of ultra-secure quantum communications. They also discussed the potential for applications of quantum technologies with new industrial partners and companies, outlining clear and realistic expectations for the future of this field.

The new member of QuantumCAT LuxQuanta participated in the Connectivity Summit session. Sebastián Etcheverry, CTO of the newly created ICFO spin-off, gave an overview of quantum communications and quantum cryptography, focusing on the current state of the technology and business landscape. The company was born in May 2021 to commercialize high-performance, affordable quantum key distribution systems ready to operate in today’s communication networks.

QuantumCAT partners at the MWC2021 main track

On the other hand, QuantumCAT partners Cellnex, Sateliot, KPMG and Keysight Technologies participated in the main track of the event.

Jaume Sanpera, co-founder, CEO and chairman of the board of Sateliot participated in a talk with the Vice President and Counsellor of Digital Policies and Development of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Jordi Puigneró, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, Mònica Roca. The session “5G IOT from space: World’s first constellation with NB-IoT coverage” dealt with the recent Enxaneta project, a nanosatellite launched to improve the deployment of the global Internet of Things connectivity services throughout Catalonia.

Oscar Pallarols, Cellnex Global Commercial Director, shared the stage with Charles Ferland, Lenovo’s Vice President and GM of Computing in the session “Bring AI capabilities to your network edge“,  where they explored how cutting-edge intelligence enables real-time decision making. Martin Sokalski, Global Leader in digital strategy, solutions and emerging technologies at KPMG, moderated a virtual roundtable “Internet of Behavior“. Panellists discussed how the pandemic has changed our behaviour on the Internet.

Keysight Technologies participated as an exhibitor. Their stand showcased some of their simulation software devices, prototype validation systems, automated software testing, manufacturing analysis, network performance optimization, and service provider in cloud environments.
